Combat Types

Every unit has one of four combat types: Astral, Infernal, Primal or Umbral. Three of them form a counter cycle, and a unit fighting the type it counters gets an effectiveness bonus of up to +100%, in attack and in defense alike.

The cycle

Astral beats Infernal, Infernal beats Primal, Primal beats Astral. Umbral stands outside the cycle: it counters nothing, and nothing counters it.

Hero units share the combat type of their special unit.

How the bonus is calculated

For each of your unit types, take its share of your army's strength and multiply it by the share of the enemy's strength it counters. Add those up: that is your effectiveness bonus. If all of your strength counters all of the enemy's, you get the full +100%.

The bonus is applied multiplicatively, after all other buffs are added up. See the fight system for the full order.

Example

You attack with 400 Guard Naki (Primal) and 200 Druid Naki (Umbral). The defender has 250 Vahloc (Astral).

  • Your attack: 400 × 60 + 200 × 30 = 30'000. The Guard Naki provide 80% of it.
  • Primal counters Astral, and the whole defense is Astral: your bonus is 80% × 100% = +80%.
  • Your attack becomes 30'000 × 1.8 = 54'000.
  • The Vahloc (250 × 120 = 30'000 defense) would counter Infernal units, but you sent none: no bonus for the defender.

Without the bonus, 30'000 against 30'000 would be a tie the attacker loses; with it, the attack wins comfortably.

Tips

  • Spy before an attack with Spotter Naki, then send the units that counter what you find.
  • When you know what is coming, move countered units off the field: the remaining defenders fight with a higher bonus.
  • Umbral units (Pangoan, Druid Naki) are a safe filler: they never give the enemy a bonus.
