Islands
The islands are set up in rings. The first ring has the starter islands (coordinates: 1xx). These islands are safe because they can't be attacked and each one is for one player only. The next two rings (coordinates: 2xx and 3xx) don't belong to anyone at the beginning and have random field buffs and artifacts. In the very middle of the map, there's just one island. This island also has random field buffs and artifacts, and it's the last one that stays in the game.
The islands in the first ring, the starter islands, are the first to go away. They only last for 10 minutes, which you can track with a countdown. Everything on these islands, like units and treasure fields, will also disappear! Once the starter islands are gone, a countdown starts for the next ring of islands (coordinates 2xx).
In the game of Dominion, you can't mine soulstone from the fields. The fields are just for recruiting units. However, when you find treasure, it gives you soulstone but doesn't add any units to your army. The only way to recruit spotter nakis is through treasure fields. Instead of local skill trees, you can improve any field (apart from portals) with field buffs that can make your attacks stronger, boost your defenses, spread plague, heal, or help you recruit faster. The islands closer to the center have more NPC units guarding them than the ones on the outside, but the reward is that you can recruit more powerful units there, like pangoans and athlas.
