Island Siege
Sieges are a unique combat style for the game mode Dominion. Unlike usual fights, sieges are asymmetrical, where only one player can attack at a time.
Sieges are a unique combat style for the game mode Dominion. Unlike usual fights, sieges are asymmetrical, where only one player can attack at a time.
There are four different phases during a siege:
As soon as an island gets attacked (movement ongoing), the island gets marked by an attack icon on the map and no one can send another movement on that island. Global attack movements always need 30 seconds to arrive. This allows the defender to prepare his defense. The defender can't send support from other islands but he can move units out of the island. As soon as the attack arrives and successfully captures the portal, the siege phase begins and the defender can't move any units on the island. If the attack on the portal fails, the siege ends immediately. If an island doesn't have a player on it already (meaning it's controlled by NPCs), then the island immediately enters the protection phase on conquest.
With the start of the siege, a timer and progress bar appears on the island. The attacker has time until the countdown ends to capture fields on the island. If the attacker captures all fields of the enemy player, the siege ends early and proceeds directly to the protection phase. If the defender has at least one field left the counter-siege phase follows the siege phase. During the siege, the defender can't move any units, but can activate field buffs on his fields.
Once the siege phase ends, if the defender still controls at least one field, the counter-siege starts. This phase is much like the siege phase, but now the roles are reversed: the defender can attack and move units, while the attacker can only use field buffs without moving units. During this time, the defender has a strong attack bonus to help them take back the fields. If the defender takes over all the attacker's fields, the counter-siege ends right away and the island moves into the protection phase. When the counter-siege is over, the player who has more fields wins the siege. The loser's fields switch to the winner's control, and any units left from the losing side are removed. If both have the same number of fields, with NPC fields not included, the defender is the winner. The siege victor gets extra rewards and the island then enters the protection phase.
During the protection phase the island can't get attacked by other players. The owner of the island can freely attack fields on the island and move units in or out of the island. The protection phase is designed to guarantee the owner of the island some time to prepare the island and recruit some units after capturing or defending the island.
